Not an easy bit of the UK to find decent do-up-able property in - having the coast on one side and Dales and Lakes on the other makes it a bit of a mecca for retirees seeking something detached with a view. However, here goes..
Penrith, Farmers and Kidd has the rather lovely New House, at Appleby up for sale (above). A big, seven-bedroomed house with an enormous workshop attached; carpets that perfectly capture what was wrong with the 70s, and a bizarrely small kitchen for the house! Great potential at £285k. Details here.
If a smallholding's your thing, Richard Turner's has School House Farm (below) up for auction on November 21st, with a guide price of £300k.
As for Matt's emails. He's looking for something rather special - a farm, ten acres and enough buildings to create five homes for his family and relatives, for up to £1m!
Not something I'd usually cover in 'Wreck..' but given that he was super helpful in giving me some web tech advice, I've made an exception. Here's a few suggestions.
Penrith, Farmers and Kidd has two properties worth a look. Bank House Farm, at Ennerdale, (below) has been running as a holiday business and offers a gorgeous farmhouse, three ready-to-live-in holiday cottages, a big barn, gardens and orchard for £680k - plus an option to buy a further 28acres. Details here.
Probably too far away for Matt and family, but I loved Canonby House, at Maryport, pictured below. A six-bedroomed, down-at-heel Georgian mansion with barns, stables and nine acres, on the market at under £600k. Details here.
Richard Turner specialises in farms and rural properties around the Bentham/Lancashire area. They've got a couple of farms worth a look. Higher Gazegill farm is listed POA but has been on the market for a couple of years so worth a phonecall. Only one house but comes with a big barn, lots of outbuildings and 50 acres of grazing land. Finally, in a similar vein Rural Scene has a four-bed farmhouse, barns, stables and 14 acres in Rossendale, Lancashire, for around £675k. PDF here.
