Georgian manor house to renovate

Image
I do love a well-placed chandelier. But what I'd really love is to live in a place with the space to hang one. As in this Pembrokeshire lovely. Priory Lodge is a gorgeous, eight-bedroom Georgian manor house in Milford Haven . It's got history; back links that include Lord Nelson's bit on the side and the Starbuck family (the whalers, not the coffee makers), and is Grade II listed. Built around 1792, it's close to Milford haven town centre but at the end of private drive and sitting within two acres of ground. (Having said that, it does look as if land around it may have been recently sold for redevelopment - you'll want to check plans). It's big, with some lovely features - sash windows, mouldings and plenty of ceiling height for those chandeliers. Downstairs is the large hall, and then one of the longest lists of reception rooms I've seen... Drawing room, dining room, family room, sitting room, breakfast room, reception room 1, reception...

Three big renovation challenges, two riverside

Image
Right me little renovation elves, time to roll our sleeves up! Three handsome properties for you today that will need rather more than a bit of plastering and extra sockets to make them live in-able... The house, above and below, was the former estate manager's house for the Llysnewydd/ Llanarchaeron Estate and sits on the Henllan bridge, at Llandysul , in Wales and around 20km from the coast. The four-bedroom Georgian house comes with half-an-acre of land - in need of a similar degree of restoration as the house. But there are some lovely features under all that rubble. It's in a gorgeous location on the edge of National Trust woodland, close to Henlan Falls and above the River Teifi ("We are reliably informed that this property has never flooded" writes the estate agent). On the market through Dai Lewis at offers over £135k. Details and more pictures here and here . Also in Wales is the five-bedroom country house below, at Cellan, about t...

Shropshire smallholding to renovate

Image
On the pricey side perhaps, given the level of dilapidation, however it's the location and the land that makes this smallholding attractive. The Hawthorns, at Prolly Moor, just outside the village of Wentnor in Shropshire, is up for auction in two lots. Lot 1 is the farm and around nine acres of land, Lot 2 is a further 11 acres. The 200-year-old stonebuilt farm cottage has an adjoining cow barn and an ugly later extension, but overall provides a decent-size footprint to work with. And it does need work... The cottage has two reception rooms and a kitchen downstairs and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs (yay!). The brick-built and tin-roofed cow house is a 21ft by 15ft so plenty of options to extend - although it's a bit of a concern that the agent hasn't put up any internal pix of the space. The location and views however, at the foot of gorgeous Long Mynd and looking out over Shropshire's hills, are what will sell this place. That an...
