Three country homes close enough to the sea

Well, hello there. Bit of a gap (soz) but hopefully I can make up up for that with this bevy of cheap and cheery beauties to carry us into the New Year.

Starting here, with a detached farmhouse and two acres of land, overlooking sea and mountains and just a few miles from the beach and on the market at under £135k.

Obviously it needs renovation works to be completed, but the main reason it's for sale at such a criminally low price is that this beautiful property is in County Kerry, Ireland, and not the Yorkshire Dales or Dorset Downs.

The house is basically one big open-plan kitchen/living/dining room downstairs, two bedrooms and a shower room upstairs. The location is pretty spectacular - not only those sea views but the quiet; your only real neighbours are wandering ponies. Castlecove and its beach are around seven miles away, and the pretty village of Sneem six miles.

On the market through agent Patrick Connor-Scarteen at 160,000Euro. Details and lots more pictures here.

My next pick was sent to me by reader Eleanor and, like our Eire house, also has a price tag that has benefitted from distance from London.

This detached cottage in the village of Halkirk, way up top in the Scottish Highlands, is basically five, interconnected rooms with pretty fireplaces, original features and little else. A "blank canvas" in the agent's parlance.

The photos and street map suggest a decent size garden/field behind the house but that isn't clear from the estate agent's details - something to check. And it has no ponies.

On the market at offers over £84k. Details and more pictures here and here.

My third property is also in Scotland, albeit rather further south. 'Hillcrest' is in the coastal village of Kirkmaiden, just outside Drummore.

There are three reception rooms and a large kitchen downstairs, three bedrooms and bathroom upstairs.

The house is a semi, but it's big and comes with a good-size garden and assorted outbuildings - all of which you'll eventually want to get rid of.

On the market through SWPC at offers over £200k. Details and more pictures here and here.
